Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie is scheduled to meet today with U.S. Department of Justice officials concerning 2011′s record number of fatal officer involved shootings. The DOJ’s presence has been requested by citizens, the ACLU and the NAACP so they might investigate if any of these shootings posed civil rights violations or were the result of inadequate training by the LVMPD or the Henderson Police Department. These departments are responsible for the majority of citizen deaths in Clark County and have costs taxpayers more the $10 million in judgments and settlements to their victims since 2000.
